Serving Those Who Serve.

The other day, my mom and I decided to have a little mother-daughter bonding and go get pedicures together. As the lady laughed at how rough my heels were and tried desperately to scrub the red dirt stain from my feet, I was reminded of a certain day in Dwaleni.

Every Wednesday, I would go to the local clinic in Dwaleni with Kacy and some of the other volunteers, where we would bring tea and dessert to an amazing group of ladies who are reffered to as "The Sizanani Ladies". They started as 16 ladies, but are now down to only 6.

Sizanani, translated into English means 'to help one another', which is exactly what these ladies have dedicated their lives to doing. When they aren't busy preparing, cooking and serving food at the local feeding program in their community, they can be found throughout the community caring for the sick and home bound who, otherwise, would go unseen. These selfless ladies go above and beyond to help those in need with little or no income at all. Because that's what they've been called to do.

One Wednesday, we had an extra special surprise for our ladies. We came prepared with foot scrub, lotion and nail polish and we humbly washed each of the ladies of the Sizanani Home Based Care's feet right there in the small house that they ran their ministry out of. These ladies are true disciples of Christ, doing His work each and everyday. What better way to give back to them, then to wash their feet just as Jesus washed his Disciples feet.

The Sizanani Ladies we're tickled. (Literally and figuratively speaking.) They are so used to caring for others with nothing in return, that it almost seemed as though they didn't know how to properly respond, when having others care for them. They were so appreciative... and even more so, deserving.

John 13:14-17 "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set for you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."
